We are focussed on long term policies and finance that encourages and builds on Axminster’s historic and existing business strengths of entrepreneurial-ism and industrial capability;
- Ambitious flood prevention strategy to cope with climate change
- Provide for more industrial employment space
- More focused start-up grants or investment funds for entrepreneurs denied access to funds post 2008
- Review business rates changes in-line with Sky / Science Park, Exeter.
- Make Axminster station South East Devon’s Tiverton Parkway - phenomenally successful and value creating
- Don’t copy other local towns road-maps, Seaton’s strengths are different to Axminster, vs Honiton vs Exmouth. Honitons proximity to Exeter is its great strength and weakness, as is Seaton’s proximity to the sea
- Promote Closer links to world class educational centres but more focused around core strengths, work with the Greater Exeter plan but don’t be a slave to it.
- Re-invent the town centre with more independent shops and more pedestrian space. Implement the long awaited bypass and stop being beholden to large national developers to implement it
- Attract younger families and professionals that see Axminster as a desirable, more affordable place to live Vs Lyme Regis
- Avoid the trap of relying on external consultants/advisors whom may wish to offer vanilla strategies (at luxury ice cream prices!)
